This public health service agency provides searchable databases for environmental health and hazardous substances.

American Academy of Pediatrics (www.aap.org)

This is the Web site for the medical association of pediatricians.  It has information for both the public and health professionals about poison safety and treatment. 

*American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) (www.aapcc.org)

The AAPCC has information and educational materials for health professionals and the public about poison safety, including games for children.  It has links to all the U.S. poison centers, as well as links to many other databases and Web sites.

Information about poisoning, drug abuse, related statistics and other injury prevention topics is accessible.

This site offers comprehensive information on programs to reduce child disability and death to injury and illness.

*Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (www.epa.gov)  

This site has information about environmental poisons, including lead, radon and mercury.  In addition, this site has information for environmentally safe ways to reduce pests (which also reduces use of some poisonous products).

FCD Educational Services (www.fcd.org) 

This non-profit organization’s Web site provides alcohol, tobacco and other drug education materials for schools and colleges.

Food and Drug Administration (www.fda.gov)

This site provides information on foods, human drugs, cosmetics, toxicology and other information including articles and search engines.

Freevibe (www.freevibe.com)

A teen-friendly site that provides information about drug use; includes a teen chat room about drug-related issues.

Great Lakes Center for Children's Environmental Health (www.uic.edu/sph/glakes/childrenshealth/childrenshealth.htm)   

This site deals with the environmental health of children.

Learn About Chemicals Around Your House (www.epa.gov/kidshometour)

Interactive site from the EPA which teaches children about ordinary household pesticide products that may contain harmful chemicals.  It also provides information about other possible poisons around the house.

*National Animal Poison Control Center (www.workingdogs.com/doc0002.htm)

This group provides poison control information for animals.  Not all poison centers will take calls regarding animal poisonings, so this group is an important source of assistance.

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (www.health.org)

This is a resource for information on alcohol and drugs, including referrals and publications. This is a service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) (www.samhsa.gov/index.aspx).

*National Inhalant Prevention Coalition (www.inhalants.org)

This site provides information about inhalant abuse.  It has educational resources for teaching children, as well as videos and public service announcements.

National Institute on Drug Abuse (www.nida.nih.gov)

This site is a resource for parents and educators.  It provides effective ways to communicate with young people about alcohol and other drug abuse.

This is the largest medical library in the United States.  It has information for the public and health professionals about a broad range of medical topics.  It provides access to:
