In 2001, the IPC established a network of satellite education centers at hospitals throughout the state. The IPC’s 12 satellites include:
· Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago
· Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton
· Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana
· Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago (Urban Pediatric Satellite)
· FHN, Freeport
· John H. Stroger, Jr. Hosptial of Cook County, Chicago (Urban Pediatric Satellite)
· Loyola University Health System, Maywood
· Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale
· Mount Sinai Hospital/Sinai Community Institute, Chicago (Latino Outreach Satellite)
· Norwegian-American Hospital, Chicago (Latino Outreach Satellite)
· St. John’s Hospital, Springfield
· Vista Health Systems, Waukegan
As IPC satellite education centers, these hospitals can help promote poison prevention at community events throughout their designated regions. However, neither the IPC nor the satellite center can guarantee that a volunteer educator will be available for every presentation. For further details, please contact the IPC outreach and education coordinator at 312-906-6125.
Each IPC satellite center has an IPC educational display unit that can be used at local health fairs, school presentations and corporate events, to educate children and adults about the dangers of poisons and how they can prevent accidental poisonings. The coordinator at each center also can facilitate access to volunteer educators and poison prevention materials for their local community groups, schools, corporations and other organizations.
