This manual is a concise reference guide for careers in the health care field. It is written primarily as a source
for high school students, but may also be used by community college students, guidance counselors, health care
recruiters, persons who have been out of the work force for a period of time and wish to return, and for those who
want to change careers.

The information in this manual was developed by the Human Resource Services division of the Metropolitan Chicago
Healthcare Council (MCHC). MCHC is an association composed of more than 140 hospitals and other health care
organizations in the greater metropolitan Chicago area and throughout Illinois.
Funding for the Health Careers Guide was provided by MCHC as well as through grants from the Chicago Area
Healthcare Human Resource Executives Association and the MacNeal Health Foundation.
