Laboratory Assistant

Laboratory assistants conduct a variety of routine laboratory tests under close supervision.

Some of the responsibilities might include:
Typing and grouping blood
Cleaning and sterilizing equipment and instruments
Examining urine, blood and other body fluids
Collecting specimens from other hospital departments
Delivering supplies


Job Outlook
Excellent. Many laboratory assistants advance to higher levels with additional education.

Educational Requirements
Laboratory assistants are trained on the job with length of training varying up to one year. High school courses should emphasize math and biological sciences.
