The Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) recently commissioned an economic impact study, The Value of Caring: The Economic Contribution of Rockford Area Hospitals on the Region’s Economy. The three Rockford hospitals generate $938.8 million in personal income for residents and account for 14,935 primary and secondary jobs.

The Value of Caring found that MCHC member hospitals have an enormous impact on the local economy. The study reports that, in 2003, Rockford area hospitals contributed:

  • 14,935 total jobs in hospitals, working on hospital construction projects or employed in other businesses due to hospital secondary spending
  • $938.8 million in personal income generated by hospitals, hospital construction projects or other businesses due to secondary spending
